Robin Mazor

Residing on the Hawaiian “Garden island” of Kauai, Robin Mazor lives at the cross-roads of east and west. Majoring at Indiana University in Religious Studies, Psychology, and Photography allowed her introduction as a teenager to Tibetan Buddhism through the Dalai Lama’s older brother in residence at Bloomington. She traveled to Jerusalem as an exchange student where she immersed herself in the Biblical aura of western religion. During this time, Robin discovered the benefits of Yoga practice and obtained teacher certification in Hatha Yoga.

Robin moved to Kauai after graduation and began what became a life of professional service. In what she describes as “eras,” she worked as a social worker with the Island’s women and children’s shelter; developed a new school where she taught elementary aged students; and founded and operated the Kauai Children’s Discovery Museum as the Executive Director. She currently works with the University of Hawaii, overseeing the evaluation of statewide federally funded adult training programs in diverse fields including healthcare, education, public safety, technology, trades, and youth mentoring programs.

Robin is the Vice President of the Kauai Dharma Center, which she runs with Lama Tashi. The center is part of the Kagyu tradition and sister to the Kagyu Thegchen Ling Center on Oahu and Karma Rimay O Sal Ling on Maui. This work entails anything from building stupas to hosting teachers, students and practitioners, from maintaining facilities and cultivating the garden to stocking the Center with practice materials and study books.

A longtime member of Tara Dhatu, Robin is a teacher/facilitator of the Tara Dance of the Divine Feminine and supports the annual Tara retreat each summer on Kauai. Photography has been a thread running through Robin’s life since she received her first camera at age 9. She has received numerous awards and commissions. Robin is well known for her subjects encompassing the stages of womanhood (in pregnancy, at birth, and with newborns), as well as children, nature and multicultural travel documentaries.

On the island of Kauai, Robin is working toward island-wide sustainability, promoting organic food growing, community building and conservation. She serves as a Board member of Hui O Laka and Kokee Natural History Museum. She is a member of Zonta International, a philanthropic organization supporting women and girls. A member of Sakayadhita and Board Trustee of Jamyang Choling, Robin actively supports the advancement of Buddhist women and girls worldwide, especially in the Himalayas.

Robyn has been asked to travel with Prema Dasara and Kutira Decosterd to Bhutan this November to video document their journey as they go to several of Bhutan’s nunneries to record the nuns chanting their Tara prayers and practices, to assess the on going work that Tara Dhatu and other organizations will be involved in to continue to Empowerment of the women of Bhutan.

Robin would need to raise money for the expenses of travel. I invite you to help support this project by making a donation and humbly thank you for your support.
