2020 Christmas Puja & Prayer Report

Andrea Abinanti is a long time friend of Prema’s and a senior teacher of the Mandala Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara. Each year Tara Dhatu invites friends to support her offerings. This year we collected over $400. Here is Andrea’s Christmas report…

Belated Christmas and New Year greetings to all!  I hope everyone had a nice Christmas holiday at home and may our 2021 New Year be a positive year for everyone! May all the unpleasant things that happened during 2020…may they all disappear!

Many years ago I had the desire to sponsor special prayers for Christmas because it is a festival that is celebrated in so many parts of the world…and it’s the time when people send greetings to their families and friends, wishing them joy, peace and happiness…then a week later is the New Year. Because of this I asked my guru, Drubthop Rinpoche which puja would be most beneficial to sponsor on this special day…he recommended the Medicine Buddha puja, which is worthwhile for all. Due to this, the Medicine Buddha puja has become our annual Christmas ritual.

This year because of all the problems with this coronavirus I decided to first have a White Tara Long-life puja plus prayers to the 21 Taras done early on Christmas morning, then at nine o’clock the Medicine Buddha Puja.

There are 21 different forms of Tara…the main one is green in color, she’s the Swift Protectress, the remover of all obstacles and is the Embodiment of Wisdom. She is also known as the Mother of Great Compassion and Liberation.

White Tara is one of the three deities of long life…she is white in color and radiant like the moon, she is associated with longevity, counteracts illnesses and helps to bring long lives to all. It is said that she sees the suffering of all so she responds to requests for help, she’s one of the embodiments of compassion.
From Tara’s heart the bright light is shining out to all…may this special daybe filled with auspiciousness and great happiness…

Punya Tara came on Christmas morning to make prayers and offerings for all beings…first she lit the main lamps for the puja…

Then she made prayers: May all who are traveling through the Bardo, the intermediate state after death, see the light of the Enlightened Ones. May they be directed along the correct path so all negativities from their previous lives be removed, may they obtain a precious human rebirth!

Then I offered the Golden lamp…May all who are sick; those with the karma of their lifespans ending soon, may they pass peacefully and take a precious rebirth…all others, may they recover quickly and have a healthy, long life!
May everyone else have good health, happiness, success and wonderful long lives!

Geshi Lobsang Sonam and Ghen Jampa making prayers for the well being of all…

Namgyal-la, the oldest monk who was Drubthop Rinpoche’s closest disciple, he oversees all three of Rinpoche’s monasteries. Here he’s sitting next toRinpoche’s throne sending heartfelt prayers to all…

the chant leader, Dorje…

and several of the young monks who also made wonderful prayers for all…

Luke Davis came to the puja to make prayers for the benefit of all on this holy day…May all lives be filled with stability, peacefulness, good health and great happiness!!!

I requested Geshi-la to bless the kataks and monetary offerings…

Luke offered a katak and a special offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama…to Dhrubthop Rinpoche…

and to the Geshi-la…

then Punya Tara made offerings to His Holiness,
to Dhrubthop Rinpoche, and Namgyal-la…

then both of them gave offerings to all of the monks…
as Punya Tara handed an offering to the monks…she wished each of them to have  a wonderful day, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!everyone was so happy…

We then went to the office and gave offerings to Khedrup, the monastery’s manager, to the second manager, the chefs and several others who work for the monastery….
after that we went outside to offer 108 butter lamps for the sake of all…we sent loving energy to all!
May all families, friends and beings in this world receive the warmth and boundless compassion of these lights sent from our holy Manjushri Hill.

May the darkness of ignorance be dispelled       May the minds awaken to their clear, luminous nature
Om Ah Hung! Om Ah Hung! Om Ah Hung!  May all be purified!
Om purifies the offerings…Ah multiplies the offerings, making them as vast as the whole universe…Hung transmutes the offerings into the nectar and ambrosia of wisdom!
At nine o’clock the Medicine Buddha puja began with nine monks…

The Medicine Buddha is the Supreme Healer, he is an enlightened being who has unbiased compassion for all beings who are alive and those who have passed away.  He protects all from physical and mental sicknesses, removes the sickness of delusions and helps eradicate the three poisons; attachment, hatred and ignorance.
May this puja have sent positive energy to those who have passed away, those who are sick and the well being of all other beings…

Punya Tara lit the seven lamps on the altar, one for each of the seven Medicine Buddhas…may these healers bestow their blessings so all have good health, happiness and long lives!
May those traveling through the Bardo see the light of the Enlightened Ones, may they be cured of their accumulated three poisons, greed, ignorance and hatred…then may they take a precious human rebirth!
May all who are sick recover quickly and have healthy, long lives!
May His Holiness the Dalai Lama and everyone else have wonderful healthy long lives, happiness and success!

Namgyal-la and all the monks sent positive energy for the well-being of everyone in the world…all the other monks also sent positive energy to all beings…
and recited the prayers compassionately…

Bachhu Ram, my Nepali son, Sunchari, his wife and Punya Tara came and made wonderful prayers and offerings for all during this puja. While sitting both Punya Tara and I read the list I had made of all those who passed away, those who aresick, all of our sponsors, their families and friends…At the end of the puja, Sunchari made the offerings for all of us to His Holiness…Dhrubthop Rinpoche, Namgyal-la, and all the monks…

By the power of all the prayers done on Christmas morning help to remove the final obstacles of 2020, a year in which so many have had incredible suffering…By the prayers we made to White Tara and the Medicine Buddha have filled theuniverse with joy, good fortune and good health for all!!!
