Drolma (Tara) Yuldhog Puja Offered for All on June 2nd in Kathmandu

Andrea Abinanti lives on Manjushri Hill in Swayumbhu, Kathmandu. She is one of our senior Tara Dhatu teachers. She invites us to engage with the various traditioinal pujas she sponsors at the monastery on Manjushri Hill.  She writes:

Drolma Yuldhog is a Tara Puja that is performed for the purpose of removing every kind of obstacle for the sake of all beings. In May I was told this wonderful Puja was going to be performed on May 4th…the Tibetan 23rd, this is the second special monthly Tara day. While attending this ritual I suddenly had the desire to have this puja arranged again during the holy month of Saga Dawa…this is the month Sakyamuni Buddha was born, became enlightened and then past away. I really wanted this puja performed for the removal of all beings’ obstacles and the horrible Covid virus here in Nepal, India and the whole world, plus I wanted positive energy to radiate out to all beings during Saga Dawa…how fortunate we were that this puja was able to be performed on June, 2nd, the Saga Dawa Tibetan 23rd…

The Drolma Yuldhog puja is an Obstacle-dispelling Tara ritual…Tara is the Swift Protectress, the remover of all obstacles, she is the Embodiment of Wisdom, known as the Mother of Great Compassion and Liberation.

The Dolma Yuldok (Drolma Yuldhog) puja, was originally composed by Acharya Nagarjuna, he performed it to dispel unwanted obstacles and  to obtain the realization of what one is wishing for.  Drolma (Tara) the liberator; Yul ~ war or hostility, Dhog ~ dispelling obstacles.

A Golden Lamp was offered to Tara…she was requested to oversee all beings in the world with great compassion removing everyone’s obstacles. You who are the Swift Protectress, may you remove this horrible virus here in Nepal and throughout the world!

To the right of the Tara on the altar is our original traditional Tara statue…many years ago she told Dhrubthop Rinpoche that she wanted to stay in this monastery so she could help liberate all beings from this holy hill…both of these Taras overlooked the puja and all of the special offerings.

One time Guru Rinpoche successfully used this ritual to pacify the local spirits and clear the air of all the misfortune that befell from them.

Here is the three-dimensional framed house, a model of a celestial mansion, surrounded with spiritual symbols…it was made to trap all the demons and ghosts.

Guru Rinpoche also performed this ritual to help save a town that was inflicted with an epidemic that took the lives of thousands. Hearing this I really felt we needed to perform this puja to remove our horrible Covidvirus that is affecting so many people throughout Kathmandu and Nepal.

Many gurus, disciples and other beings have requested Tara to remove serious diseases, epidemics, legal cases and conflicts. I’ve been told the best way to negate all of these situations is by having this Drolma Yuldhog ritual done.

Ghen Jampa was the main monk overseeing the puja…almost everyday he makes strong prayers for the well being of all…during this puja he made passionate prayers to Tara…requesting her to remove all the horrible obstacles in the world. Sitting next to him is Choesang, he is one of the teachers for the young monks…he also made very loving prayers for the wellbeing of all during this puja…

Dorje is the umze, chant leader…

Sonam and Jampa also recited compassionate prayers to Tara…

on the other side of the monastery is Ngawang Yeshi…he is the Gekku-la, whenever there is a puja he oversees all and reads the names of all the sponsors…for this puja he read all of our names. Next to him is the younger Jampa who is such a sweet young boy who really cares for everyone…he is so kind to me…

next to them, are Tenzin and Kunchok playing the traditional gyaling (“Chinese flute” a traditional woodwind instrument)

The Drolma Yuldhog puja first began at 6am and then the second half at 9. I went to themonastery in the early morning just before the puja began…for the first half of the puja I offered the lamps on the main altar…during that time I sat and made prayers for the wellbeing of all. When the puja began at 9 I offered the main puja lamps for all sponsors, those who are sick, those who passed away and all other beings:

During the second half I again sat and meditated for the sake of all…May Tara the Swift Protectress remove everyone’s obstacles and rid the world of this horrible virus! Several times I read my list of names; those who have passed away, may they take a precious rebirth, those who are sick may they be cured of their physical problems and may all others have healthy, wonderful lives!

Ghen Jampa made strong prayers of the benefits described in this great text of Drolma Yuldhog radiating them out to all…  \

Kedrup, the manager of the monastery, came into the monastery to make videos of the puja for others who had also made some offerings for the puja and monks…

By receiving the blessings of Arya Tara one can gradually develop the qualities of Love, Compassion, Impermanence, Renunciation and Bodhicitta…

Dhrubthop Rinpoche sat on his throne with loving compassion overseeing all…

His Holiness the Dalai Lama also compassionately overlooked all…helping Tara to defeat all evils, the Dharma protectors to protect all and getting rid of warfare, drought, poverty and sickness…

A male and female figure were made with tsampa flour representing the puja’s sponsors…they were placed in front of the celestial mansion for the purpose of all their obstacles being removed…

pieces of tsampa were made by the monks, me, my family and for everyone on my list. I made one for those who passed away, another for those who are sick and a third one for all the sponsors…the purpose of these are to remove everyones obstacles, sicknesses and misfortunes…

All demons and ghosts were sent into the celestial mansion for the purpose of dispelling the unwanted obstacles which include being  trapped by evil spells, caught by Naga related diseases, harms done by worldly gods, evil gods and misfortunes…

Ghen Jampa is making prayers to the protectors to remove all other remaining obstacles…

It is said that in the ancient era Indian Pundits like Acarya Nagarjuna, Acarya Dharma Shri and others performed Drolma Yuldhog rituals… they successfully managed to revoke all kinds of obstacles…

The celestial mansion surrounded with the spiritual symbols…having  trapped all the demons and ghosts, is now being taken out…

May all of our obstacles, diseases and misfortunes be thrown away…

the mansion is being taken apart…

while the final prayers in the monastery were being made…

all the demons and ghosts…

and spiritual symbols…

are being thrown away…

into the jungle under our monastery…may everyone’s obstacles have been removed!
I then went back to the monastery and gave our offerings to all the monks…

May all beings have received Tara’s blessings…and may this puja have dispelled everyone’s obstacles and diseases!!!
