The Tara Dhatu Educational Program (TDEP) has been developed to provide the support and guidance necessary to maintain the integrity of the Tara Practices as a vehicle of liberation.
Because the practice is based in traditional Tibetan Buddhist mind training techniques, certain philosophical ideas, lifestyles and commitments are a part of these programs.
When we encounter something that uplifts us and inspires us, we have a natural desire to go deeper into that experience.
We have developed these Educational Programs & Courses within Tara Dhatu to help satisfy those who have tasted the profound awakening and empowerment that is a product of the Tara Practice and want to become more deeply involved.

Humanitarian Programs
Directed by Anahata Iradah and Lilliha Nancy Herrington
All Donations are USA Tax Deductible.
Tara Dhatu’s Humanitarian outreach started shortly after the Mandala Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara was born. Prema had been traveling in Orissa, India and was introduced to a small group of Tibetan refugee nuns whose teacher was revered as a great siddha. She raised the money for their support through articles she wrote for Snow Lion Publication
(To read these wonderful stories, click here)
With the creation of Tara Dhatu and its nonprofit status, the organization took on the task of directing funds to these nuns in need. The vision and scope of this work expanded greatly following the 1998 Tara Dance Pilgrimage to India and Nepal. There the delegation made connections with schools, nunneries, and organizations housing families and senior citizens. Joni Haug agreed to manage these connections and assumed the role of Charity Director.
She managed this role for ten devoted years. Our members continue to support Tibetan children and Tibetan nuns at Dolma Ling and Kachoe Gyakil Ling Nunneries.Individual Tara Dhatu members maintain commitments with families and individuals in India and Nepal.
We have helped one impoverished mother in Brazil get trained as a nurse’s aide so she could support her three children. Click here to read the story about Aline.
We have sent support to an ecological school for impoverished children in Bahia, Brazil.
The success of the dedicated work of Pabitra Lama
For the past 13 years Anahata Iradah and Lilliha Nancy Herington have been guiding the Tara Dhatu humanitarian outreach. In the immediate past the focus was supporting Pabitra Lama and her work with Bright Nepal. Pabitra Lama lives in Bouda, Kathmandu. For many years she took care of “at risk” children in her own home at the Bouda Stupa. In 2012 when the children were too many for her home, we were able to help her open a sanctuary called Bright Nepal. Bright Nepal provided shelter and education to 13 girls from the hill tribes surrounding the Kathmandu Valley.
The current focus of our Humanitarian Outreach
Atisha School/Bright Nepal
Atisha Primary School is currently the main focus of Bright Nepal (brightnepal.net) which is a humanitarian outreach project whose primary goal is to make education available to children in need. Bright Nepal is currently serving a small Tibetan community in exile in the Jawalakhel district of Kathmandu. It is the poorest Tibetan colony that came about due to the invasion of Tibet in 1959. Atisha Primary School serves the refugee community and provides the children with an excellent all round education. The teachers are on a minimum salary and most parents can barely afford the small school fees. Our help will transform the lives of this community.
Support for Atisha can come in the form of one time donations or in the form of individual sponsorship of one of the children. It can also come through the purchase of a hand loomed Tibetan carpet or rug made in the carpet factory that benefits the whole community. Donations are tax deductible through Tara Dhatu. Profiles of students in need can be found at this site: brightnepal.net

A Thank You Gift for Frontline Covid Workers in Brazil

Things in Brazil are really desperate due to the Pandemic. Our focus on White Tara this month is especially poignant for our Brazilian sangha. When Myri decided to offer the White Tara Dance every day for 21 days, Maya, one of our Brasilia dancers, was inspired to “do something” for the staff at some of the local hosipitals. She collected some limited $$ donations from friends, bought some treats and took them to the front line workers. They were enthusiastically received!!

Maya writes … Dear sangha, a friend and I
together with TDSA are organizing ourselves to deliver sweets (chocolates, candies, fruit, etc.) to the front line workers in the public hospitals of Brasilia. It is a way for us to show affection and gratitude for the health professionals that are exposed every day in hospitals over crowded with COVID patients.

We are so grateful for their compassion in this challenging moment that brings so much pain and suffering. And we celebrate with them every time a life is saved. You are invited to collaborate with us to help us with the purchases. We will make up the
boxes and deliver them.

You can make you donation through TDSA's Paypal account

Maya & TDSA
Our efforts are small but we have made and continue to make a difference. This small story illustrates this perfectly.
An old man walked the beach at dawn.
He noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea.
Finally catching up with the youth, he asked the young man why he was doing this.
The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left until the morning sun.
“But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions of starfish,” countered the old man.
“How can your effort make any difference?”
The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to the safety of the waves.
“It makes a difference to this one,” he said.
Please join us in making a difference in this world.

Swayambhu Retreat House
The Retreat House Project on Manjushree Hill in Swayambu, Kathmandu, Nepal is for the purpose of restoring five houses for practitioners to retreat and live in a secluded, holy area.
The buildings were originally built in the 1930’s. Since that time, nuns, monks, and lay practitioners have been using the buildings despite the houses being in various states of dilapidation. Two of the houses have become completely unlivable and the other three, if not restored, will soon be dangerous to live in.
About seven years ago a local supporting group formed the Manjushree Pragya Gyan Vihar Sangh Organization to be the caretaker of the houses and the restoration project. Andrea Abinanti, our Tara Dhatu representative in Kathmandu, has been living in one of the houses for over 25 years. As part of the organization, she has appealed to Tara Dhatu to help her assemble the funds to support the rebuilding of the houses.
When renovated, there will be rooms that will be available for short term retreats, as well as for those who come to the monastery next to the houses, for teachings and to participate in monthly full moon ceremonies.
As a Tara Dhatu sponsored project, all donations are tax deductible. You may pay with a credit card by using the link below:
Or, you may pay by check made out to Tara Dhatu.

Great merit is generated by supporting people to retreat and to engage in dharma activities. We are so blessed to be included in a project like this. Wishing all prosperity and success to Andrea and the Trust in manifesting the means and materials to accomplish the renovations.
